I have a 70 camaro small block with PS. I want to eliminate the PS completels. Mostly to eliminate the weight and the pump. How much trouble is it to install one of the aftermarket rack and pinion steerings I see all over National Dragster?
What other issues will I have to conted with other than mounting the rack and pinion onto the car? Steering Column? Old steering box? Tie rods?

Bumpsteer and alignment will be the biggies..getting that part right is vital..

I would be concerned that the rack and pinion would NOT be strong enough for street use.....Make sure the parts are street friendly.......not just weight saving " Race Only " stuff.....

Onemoretime is right yet again. At the risk of appearing rude, if you don't want to measure bump steer, scrub radius etc, don't change a part.
Racks can be nervous at speed(over140mph), I know that porsche Chev and Ford have been using them for years but if you drive a box v rack Benz, Bmw, Holden, Chev or Ford you will find the later cars have more steering response - at the cost of high speed stability.
If weight is the issue (drag car?) go manual box with a ratio 24:1 or higher and wave to the crowd through the traps.
Racks like McPherson struts are cheap and light - thats all.
