Installing a shrinking disc
Just wondering what the proper retaining nut to use for holding the shrinking disc in place? Ive got a new milwaukee 6086 grinder. When I place the nut in the disc it protrudes about 1/8-3/16 past the face of the disc. Is this normal?
The shrinking disc is from John Kelly if it makes a difference. Thanks...Eric |

Bob, I bought it from a fellow member of the board. His name is John Kelly, here is his website http://www.ghiaspecialties.com/
It was around 55-60 bucks including shipping. Yes its the first time am trying out the shrinking disc. Ive been playing around with a poor man's version for some time and the results are excellent. It has cut my repair time down!! On smaller dents or dents that I have access to on the backside I can metal finish most of them. On bigger dents where before I had to do a coat or filler like Rage Gold then skim coat of poly glaze, am able to get by with just the poly glaze. Am really looking forward to using this shrinking disc |

Hi Eric,
That is not normal. It should be flush. I have used several different spindle nuts and never had this problem. Can you send me a picture? ghiafab@msn.com Thanks, John www.ghiaspecialties.com |

I wonder??
Do you not use the sanding disk backing or pad with the shrinking disk??? that would take up the slack in the nut would it not??

John,
Ill get some pics sent out Monday night. I dont have the rubber backing plate yet, yet to come in from the supply store. The retaining nut is a stepped nut that came with the grinder. The smaller step fits into the hole in the disc perfectly. But the larger step sits on top of the disc about 3/16. I looked on your site and looked at your pics, it looks like i have the same style of retaining nut. Anyway Ill get those pics sent out Monday. Thanks...Eric |
