Installing Upper/Lower Ball Joints - Duramax

Hey guys, quick question. I am installing upper & lower ball joints in my sons 2003 Chev. Duramax. I noticed that the ball joints have a "dot" on the top flange. I assume this is so they get orientated correctly but what is the correct orientation? Should the dot" face forward, towards the back, etc.?
