insulation for heat and noise?

I am building a streetrod pickup and have a couple of questions about insulation. This truck does not have door panels. The inside of the door is metal so the only place to put insulation is inside the door cavity. I have heard of using undercoating but I have also heard that when it gets hot in the summer the truck will smell like tar. Is there another spray product made for this? Also, I see ads for insulation to go under the carpet, on firewall, headliner etc. Are they all pretty similar or is dynamat really that much better. It seems a lot more expensive.
Thanks,
Don

This was recently covered in detail, Don.

Do a search in this forum on "insulation" ... what kind of truck are you doing?

Ooh, yeah!

What fun, eh? Got any pics? I just got my truck last January and did a bunch of work on it -- see photo diaries at my link below my sig. It came with a 350/350, Edelbrock mild cam, intake and 4 bbl carb, K&N air filter, headers, Mustang II IFS, relocated gas tank ... I put AC in, a new shifter and hand brake, gauges, etc., and rewired it head to toe, and man, am I having fun driving now!!!
