intake

Just make sure it is a vortec intake not an older style Gm intake which has 4 more intake bolts than a vortec intake. Just pick the intake needed for what you need as mild to wild performance. A good all around intake is an Edelbrock Rpm which has good low speed manners with a decent redline too. The Rpm Airgap style is a little taller but cools nicer for cruising low speed because of it's open design under the plenum.

Is your engine a 80`s to 95 factory TBI? if so it doesn`t have Vortec heads.
The name "Vortec" has been in use on GM engines since the 80`s. It came about when GM released engines with swirl vane heads meaning there`s a large swirl vane in the intake bowl. Since a tornado is a Vortex, they used the name Vortec. The swirl vane heads are the worst flowing in small block history since the swirl vane restricts the flow. The Vortec heads that are sought after came on 1996 and up L31 350 engines. They are different in the classic heads in several ways. They do not have a heat riser passage in the center of the head. They use 8 intake bolts in a straight up pattern. The intake ports are also taller with more slant. Vortec heads carry the casting numbers 062 and 906. The combustion chambers are heart shaped.
Swirl vane heads have a 12 bolt pattern, but the 4 center bolts are at a different angle, while a regular intake can be drilled to make it work, it`s better just to use the correct intake for it. but since the heads already flow so awful the power gain will be so small you won`t notice much difference so in the end if you add up dollar spent vs. power gain you`ll see it`s not worth it.
