The only difference in factory stock intake manifolds was the mounting flange for 2 or 4 barrels and the size of the intake runners. The small cubic inch engines got 2 barrel carbs with small runner 2 barrel intakes. THe small runners created high velocity to give these small engines better low end torque and throttle response to help get the vehicle moving out of the hole.
The 4 barrel intakes had slightly larger runners. There were several exhaust manifold types used by chevy, the rams horns which are center exit, the log style which is one long manifold with a rear dump and the sweep back manifold which also has rear exits. THe rams horn style used in the 60's and early 70's flowed the best of the three. |
