Intake manifold sucking air

Own a 1987 Chevy suburban with a 5.7 engine TB carb and i've just been informed my intake manifold is sucking air. Got any good articles I can go to to follow for repairs? Any and all info would be appreciate for dismantling my manifold and replacing the gasket. If you have replaced these gasket in the past please inform me of what I should do and what I should avoid doing in the process.

Thanks,
Tommy

Sucking air

I new I should of stated who determined that my manifold was sucking air. The answer is Ourisman Chevy, one of the local dealerships. It cost me $120 bucks to find this out. Another local station thought I had an exhaust blockage. I took it to Midus muffler and they determined it was not the exhaust. Anyways I trust the report of the dealership, but I sure ain't paying $1300. to get it fixed. I really didn't ask how they determined the leak after he quoted the price. I got a buddy who said he take the job for $150. he has repaired my vehicle many, many times. Of course I am his helper. I always research repairs to learn from others. If I could just torque the bolts I'd be a happy camper. From what I've read the torque is 35 to 48 foot lbs and the tightening of the bolts should start from the center using a crisscross pattern.

Make sure it's not the TBI base gasket on the manifold-they are notorious leakers.
