Intake Question

I've got a slightly warmed over Sbc 350. It has an Edelbrock intake on it. The only numbers i can get off of it is C3BX. It appears to be a high rise dualplane. Engine runs strong, I was just wondering if anyone knows if this intake is any good or should I be looking for something else.

Intake Question

According to some other folks on another forum it is an older intake for a 327. They say it has large intake runners. Does it have a tube in front for the oil fill? Also those intakes with the Holleys and Qjets would fit under the hood on Vetts unlike the Performer RPM intake.

Yes it's an older intake but it will work just fine for a mild build. No reason to spend the money or change it for a newer Performer just to cruise around on the street.

The C3BX and it's sister, the C3B (a photo of the one I own is below) were originally made to use the Holley 3-barrel carb. The 3-barrel carb ended up not being the world beater Holley had hoped for. That's the reason for the small notch in the plenum divider- to clear the wide secondary throttle blade of the 3-barrel carb. The Holley Dominator carb replaced the 3-barrel and the rest is history.

The C3B/C3BX intakes aren't bad pieces, but through the years the changes in how we build engines up have brought changes to the shape and volume of the manifold ports and plenums that improved on the older designs.

Today, for a mild build a Performer p/n 2101 is a good choice. Or if you're using a squarebore carb and want a little extra bottom end, the Performer EPS p/n 2701 is a good choice. These p/n's are both for the 1986-back heads. Check the Edelbrock site for other applications.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I will be using a Edelbrock 1406 carb. do you think its worth filling in that notch to make it a true 180 degree manifold?

I doubt it. The primary side of the carb is sealed off from the notch. Having it open only to the secondaries won't hurt anything.

Only thing is you will need to run a small base distributor,an HEI will not clear the back runners.Actually the C3B will out perform the Performer 2101.

If you don't mind a little grinding, the HEI will fit. Won't fit as-is, though.
