Intake question....Vic JR or Air Gap RPM
I am upgrading my 383 sbc and unsure of which intake I should use. It is 10-1 comp with edelbrock e210 heads and a comp roller cam 235@.050 and 565 lift. I have both intakes and plan to sell one. This is a street strip car that is for fun only. I would try both but this is in a 98 Camaro and to change the intake involves dropping the motor out of the bottom of the car. I am leaning towards the air gap cause I do not want to loose my low end torque. For the record, I have a 3000 stall and 3.73 gears.

I use a jr on my car.if you make power and want more the answer is clear.I have no issues with torque

On your engine the power difference is very very small. Less than 10hp at peak.
But the difference in torque is quite a lot. You do not have enough "motor" or rpm to take advantage of a Vic JR. |
there is a possibility that fb88 is correct this time?
On my Camaro I took of a performer and installed a vic junior and picked up 4/10s. I was using a solid cam and 830 holley, stockish cast iron heads |
This what it looks like when you build for torque and
make use of it. http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...rebird22-1.jpg |

This was not the best one of the day. Just the one that got captured on video.
On the best passes, my friend said it clearly yanked both front wheels a good 3-4 inches. Unfortunately he was watching . not filming. Still need to test and tune using header collector extensions. Makes a big difference on a car like this. The bite there is pretty good. Have not even tried the nitrous on this car yet. Needs frame connectors first. A work in progress. |

I was thinking the rpm airgap was the way to go myself.
Hey Fbird, what kinda 60' time are you cutting to pull the tires off the ground? just wondering about how much I need to do the same. |
I think the cam is a littlw small for the jr maybe just border line. But makes the air gap a good choice. They are not perfect many say its very close the the jr either way. Might loose tq and hp either way performer rpm is a good manifold i would not be suprised to see the regular rpm hit the mark better than the air gap.
