Interior door panels

I need to rebuild the door panels in my /28 Buick and I'm getting tired of working with hardboard from the lumberyard as the basic backing material. Is there an alternative material that is easier to work with and closer to the original materials. I'm looking for something that will more easily accept staples or that is somewhat softer so my commercial sewing machine can actually make a stitch line thru it. Suggestions? Help? Comments? Hope to hear some feedback pleez.

You can use black or tan waterboard (water resistant cardboard about 1/8" thick) or 3MM (about 1/8" thick) PVC foamboard.

Here is the black panelboard: CLICK HERE

PVC foamboard is available from most sign shops and from sheet plastic suppliers.

You can sew through either one.

Thanks Dan, that is exactly what I'm looking for. I kept trying ebay and didn't find what I wanted.
