Interior lights/warning chime

I just had an alternator problem on my older Ranger and while I was into electrical repairs I decided to fix a malfunctioning warning chime on my 2002 Ranger. That dang thing just goes off whenever it feels like it even while driving so I decided to rip it out and exact revenge on it with a hammer to get even for my frayed nerves! The Dang thing got the last laugh however because now that it is out the interior lights will not work! Fortunately I had not taken the hammer to yet and I can plug it back in and the lights work just fine, have any of you guys disabled this thing and avoided the light problem? Is there a way to by-pass the chime to make the lights work?

cut/ insulate the black/ pink wire at the ignition switch if it's a key in chime that's grounding/ loose, but the chime can also go off due to an SRS issue ( seatbelt or airbag ).. if you drive without a seatbelt, hold down on the seatbelt release button b4 you drive off.. there is also a procedure to deactivate the chime all togther but I can't remember how

It's not the key warning and I NEVER drive without my seatbelts but you have got me to thinking about the airbag warning. There are no lights coming on with this chime and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to when it starts, I also ran a computer scan and it does not show any trouble codes.

Leave the chime in, but open it up and fill the chime with RTV then put it back together. That is an old trick Ford mechanics did in the late seventies before it became illegal.

Are the lights staying on, or not turning on?
I had to replace the small push button in the bottom of the door frame because it kept saying my door was open, my light was staying on, or my alarm would just go off for fun because it was saying the door was open whenever it felt like.
