Red face Internal or external balanced engine

What is the differance between internal and external balanced engine? Is one better then the other? 350 SB. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

the sbc 350 is internally balanced. Just dont try to make a internal engine into an external balanced engine. the factory has done all of their work for us. all we need to do is keep it simple and not try to reinvent the wheel again. All external balanced engines are balanced at the harmonic dampner and flywheel. just look for the weights on them. Internal balanced engines are balanced at the crankshaft by adding or removing weight in certain areas.And i dont think any one is better then the other.

I relize the difference then y dont they sell internaly balnced 383 cranks?? Why in 87 when Gm went to use the one peice rear main seal did they decide to externaly balance it?

Small chevy's were external balanced untill 86 when they changed to a one piece rear mian and they did so to try to fix the porblem of getting the rear main to stop leaking( a commen problem) and for cost effectivness.

You must internally balance the 383.
