International 4-Door Panel...
 

Hey All,

New here. This is my first post, so be gentle please.

I've come across an old International panel truck, its a 4 door version. Being the fact that I know mostly old Fords, I don't know where to start on learning about this animal. I've already done a few searches here and have learned some things -- like the 'corn binder' nickname -- but I was wondering if you folks could point me in some specific directions.

Such as what engine this truck has in it. Its a V8, backed by a 4 speed transmission. Also, is it possible this truck could be a 3/4 ton? Looked like it might have had a Dana 60 rear end, but I'm not real good on visually indentifying differentials.

Are there any International specific websites out there? I know the 'net is covered up with Ford stuff, and know where to go to find something about a Ford, but this International has me scratching my noggin wondering where to begin.

Welcome the board! :thumbup: For websites and that kind of stuff you might want to check out the Knowledge Base, its the link at the top of your screen. It has all kinds of websites, you might find what your looking for there. If not then I'm sure someone on this forum knows a few.

International built their own engines..They are good solid very durable perfomers but not a lot out there in performance pieces..What we term a 3/4 has the 8 stud wheels on it and probably the old split rims if yours is older..

They are not a real popular piece but could make a nice odd rod if nicely done..Paint and interior and such..

I am a past "Binder" owner. A 57 four door short bed pickup. Even the 1/2 tons were built like the other manufacturers 3/4 tonners. The 3/4-1 ton had the eight bolt wheels. Try www.Binderbulletin.org/

Could be a 304, 345 or a 392 V8. Do you know what year it is?

I haven't seen one of those in years but the CB & Q RR used to have quite a few of them back in the 60's. If the body is good I'd swap in a newer more common drivetrain. The IHC V-8's were dependable as heck but parts weren't cheap even when they were still in production. I used to work for an IH dealer and WE didn't even get a discount on them! It would make a really cool "Odd Rod" like said earlier.

No, its got fat fenders like a mid-50s Ford. I was looking on oldtruck.com and found a couple of pics. I believe this one may be around a '56 model. Its got the 4 doors as I previously mentioned, and the floor of the truck behind the rear seats is wooden. Its also got solid sides with an oval window set at an angle.

I look forward to getting into this project, once I get the truck home. Hopefully it'll get a big block and be made into a tow rig. :thumbup:

Lots of great info here. I think you are looking at what they called a Travelall. Kinda like a Suburban. I have a 1965 and 66 IH 1/2 ton trucks which I will be turning into one truck this coming winter. Really pretty cool trucks but parts can be quite difficult to find. Get ready to use some hotrodder injinuity!

Another good link, thanks! :thumbup: And yes, a search on Google for Travelall turned up images of trucks very similar to what I've found.

This one is close, but like I said, the sides of the one I found are solid with just a small oval window in the side.

OK, does it look like the one in this picture, I the front anyhow. this is a picture of my brother's 1956 IH shortbox taken today, 03/05/2005. That is my brother leaning on his 69 1/2 Ford Maverick. Yes, that is a 75 big bumper front end. also visible in the picture is his Cougar and one of his Turbo Coupes.

Also note that the 3/4 ton internationals through at least 1968 did not have 8 hole wheels but a latge 6 bolt pattern.
