My dad has a 1950's international in our garage now and is planning on restoring it. He would like to change the old 6v electrical system to a 12v. He was wondering who made the electrical system and how much it would cost to convert all of it. We have not looked to much into it yet though.

The old system is usually a combination of Motorolla, Prestolite and some AC- Delco. It is very easy to convert, 6-volt wires are twice the size needed for a twelve volt system, just replace the bulbs with 12 volt and put a Volt-a-drop resistor (12-6volt) on the dash guages. If you have a heater motor it can be swapped for a 12 volt and the starter will even work if you put a 12 volt solenoid on it. Just don't grind on the starter all the time!! Been there done that!! Great old trucks "She ain't much fur purty, but she's Hell fur tuff!"

Check it out but you might need a voltage drop on the fuel sensor also.
