Introduction (first post) and a question
Just signed up a couple of days ago. Have been spending a lot of my time on Chevytalk, but have found this site to be VERY informative. Own a 57 Chevy. You can see pics here:picture listing You'll see various pics of my 57 along with a couple of miscellaneous ones.
I purchased this Decklid Cover and intend to put it on in a few weeks. I have bought 1/8 closed cell foam, 3M spray and have the material. It is the material that matches the trunk kit that is already installed (picture 1323 in my site's pics). I have read a lot of information on Christmas tree clips to install it. I was at an interior shop and say them installing a lightweight sheet (before covering) onto another car's deck lid. They were using these clips see number 2280. Which clips would be best? I read about either clip showing through the material. How can I prevent that from occurring? Any other helpful hints to make this easier on a novice? Thanks a bunch in advance! |

clips
Sometimes the metal clips wont work in certain areas because the sheet metal has multiple layers or its a little concaved which wont allow the metal clip to go in far enough to lock. The christmas trees will grab at any depth. Make sure the length of the clip wont hit the outer sheet metal when its pushed in.
Install the clips, cement your closd cell foam down over the clips, then you can grab old sanding disk and GENTLY sand down the bumps that the clips leave in the foam. Also when applying the cement to the foam for the material, leave a small space around the clip area dry so that the material does not glue down into any depression that you might have made when you sanded. Good Luck. |

Thanks!
I appreciate the information. I understand why the christmas trees are the way to go now.
