Introduction & questions on sewing machine

Greetings,

I'm new to the site and trying to learn upholstery. I've read some of your forum discussions on sewing machines and looking for some advice. I would either like to buy a Consew 255 rb1, Pfaff 145, or Singer 111W156. All seem to be pretty similar, except the Consew has a larger bobbin casing. I have access to all three for about the same price, although I would add a servo motor to the consew, which would make it more expensive. Any recommendations? Thanks,

Shane

I have a Consew 255RB-3, a lot like the one you're looking at. This machine would be a lot newer than either of the other two. I would choose the Consew, but the Pfaff is a Cadillac. It would be the oldest of the three. The Pfaff also is very expensive to buy parts for, easily twice the cost of similar parts for the other two. All three machines will work well for you. The larger bobbin is great if you ever have to sew with large thread.

Sewing Machine Review

Thanks a lot for the info. I want to buy the Pfaff because it's being sold by an eccentric old craftsman (85+), cool guy. This isn't, however, the way to buy things. If I come to my senses, I'll buy the old Singer 111W156, completely reconditioned, with new servo motor for $800. I was wrong.... the Pfaff and Consew all said and done will be around $950+. Again... thanks for helping me make a decision.
