Yes they are the same basic rearend, I recall that there is a difference, a minor one. It's something like a different spline on the pinion or something, requiring a matching yoke.

I am sorry to say that you are not in luck. The dana 44 is basically the same rearend as the jag unit, with some differences, the jag is 10 spline, the dana is 26. the ring gear screws on with 7/16 bolts on the jag, and 3/8 in the dana, The outer race if the front pinion bearing is also different but you only have to look at the numbers on the inner and outer races and order what fits

all of this could be overcome when swappjng a dana 44 ring gear in any jaguar rear end, BUT not if it is a 2.88, as the 2.88 has a different carrier offset than a std number 3 dana carrier. I am haveing a spacer made to try and fit a 3,73 gear in my 2.88 jaguar, but i cannot guarantee that it will work, but the ring gear spacer only needs to be offset about 3/16 of an inch to work

send me an e-mail if you want one of the spacers or to hear if it works, if it doesnt you will have to get a new carrier case with the correct offset.

Sorry!

if you want a 4:11 you will need a different carrier case, but as far as i can see the spacer will work for mounting a 3 carrier ring gear on the 2.88 carrier, my e.mail is jakob@regeur.dk
