I am considering doing the same IFS swap into a 1948 F1 Ford pickup.
While researching the swap online I came across these http://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gall...&albumid=30130 http://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gall...&albumid=21703 I realize that a F1 Ford is NOT a 40 Chevy ... but you might find the info interesting. And a Jaguar XJ6 wheel bolt pattern is the same as Chevrolet ( 5 on 4.75 ).

we were looking at that two days ago at work
a co-workers friend has a complete rotor2rotor for a 100 bucks so we were discussing that vs 2000+ for a heits mustang 2 it looks pretty straight forward, just have to get the geometry correct when you hang it |

From the research that I have found, it appears to be be a very good option. As long as it is installed with everything being level, starting with the frame, then it is almost a bolt on. It looks like you have to fab a couple of mounts, depending on your application, but outside of that it looks like a much more affordable solution. I am in the same boat. Money is money! Parts are cheap and easily obtainable and you end up with a power rack, and the steering is in the right place! From what I see, it sure looks like the way to go. Good luck with your project and thanks. Sometimes you just need to bounce your ideas around!
