Jammin' without masking

I've just started jamming my firbird , but i didn't need to mask anything off as there really isnt anything to mask. But My friend just told me that i should have masked because the clear overspray can't be painted over sucessfully. He said i need to sand down the overspray and re-prime it. Is that true and I should mask off the area?

Bob

Gently sand off the overspray and you'll be fine. If you cut through the primer, reprime the panel. You can paint over the overspray but it will result in a little texture in the final finish just by virtue of th rest of the panel having a different texture to begin with when you start spraying.

yes that was my intent , just keep the overspray to a minimum and sand it before continuing with painting.

Thank you

Be careful of this, I tend to agree with you friend. I have seen a lifting problem an inch or so from the panel edges. I jamb panels prior to the final sanding of the outside of the car. I sand the outer portion of the panel back a couple of inches for adhesion. Then sand to the panel edge when I final sand. I look at it this way... You will be sanding the "overspray" clear off anyway if it lifts. A paint guy told me this was happening due to the lack of mill thickness was not allowing it to cure fully where it was lifting.
