No C4 bell will fit a 3N71B transmission.
Not likely to be many, if any, mods for that transmission. That transmission is one of the most bulletproof transmissions ever built. |

I'm sorry I just saw that it had the same tailshaft housing as a c4 and its bolts up to my 302 so I thought it was a C4 bell. Will I have problems with this trans behind a fairly stock 302?

Also do you think that this will handle more hp. I dont race from a dig alot and I've heard that lauching is the main killer of transmissions. I'm planning on building up the 302 so will it be able to handle rolling onto about 400hp?

I have no clue how much hp it will handle. What I do know is that about 20 years ago I cleaned out a wrecking yard going out of business and got over 200 3N71B transmissions because no one else would buy them. I scrapped every piece because nothing sells in them. And every one of them were cherry inside.
Over the years I have probably junked in excess of 2000 of them. I have NEVER seen one with any internal damage. The transmission you have came in some Granadas and other Ford cars from 77-80. I think they were bolted to inline six motors, but don't know for sure. As far as I know, there is not one part in them, not even the bolts, that will fit a C4. Basically, the 3N71B transmission is a Japanese copy of the C4, except it uses thrust bearings instead of thrust washers. |

Thanks for the info. I guess we'll see if it handles the power. One more question though the trans has a electric solenoid thing that goes into the case right next to the modulator
And it has a wire running from it. What could it be. |

Solenoid to activate something on the valve body. I have no clue what actually happens when it is activated, but it probably has something to do with shifting.
