Another piece of auto software that takes the mear fun out of it even more. Soon the auto games I have for the 360 will give a more real aspect of driving than the real *autos*. Being comfortable with luxury is one thing removing the realism of driving independently is another. One person commuter autos will take over acting as a chauffer. Get in sit down command where to go and thats it. Buh technology is awesome but not at the same time. It seems as every year passes its another year closer to times within futuristic movies. Well crap heh. Cool and a good sales gimmick but not as well.

Lots of high end (and not so high end) cars have had launch control for years. I put that in the same category as backup sensors, lane departure warning, stability control, etc, etc. If you can't drive the car, stay off the damn road!

It's a novel concept, but I don't really care for it as an applicable technology. Most of these cars are so bogged down with weight, torque vectoring, abs, traction control and all other kinds of nannies that you practically need a "go fast from a stop nanny" just to override them. I know Nissan has an automatic rev-match function for their manual transmission Z's, and Porsche is about to follow every other supercar maker in nixing the manual transmission for the dual clutch in all it's high-end cars. May make them tenths of a second faster, but those paddle shifters are just boring.

As much as I bemoan the idea of all of this technology making the car move fast for you (so you can pay attention to the giant computer screen in the middle of the dash instead), it's going to a generation that wants it and is going to abuse it. In 10-15 years, the parts left of the cars that are useful for anyone with an actual passion in their heart for going fast will be ripe for the picking.
