Jeep wrangler with a 5.7 chevy
I have a 1991 jeep wrangler that had a 4 cyl. I installed a 350 brand new HEI dis. The jeep runs great with the exception that it is hard to start? The engine will only fire when the ignition is released? I used the jeep wire harness and can not trace the correct wires to use. Any suggestions would truly be helpful.

my guess
The ignition switch is not supplying power to the HEI during cranking.
Is the new 350 a computer controlled engine? More detail would be nice. The HEI must have power during cranking. Put a meter on it to check. I'm guessing that you could change the ignition switch so power is supplied to the HEI during cranking. vicrod |

If the starter has a terminal marked with an "I" then hook that to the HEI along with the existing power wire. The "I" terminal is hot when cranking the engine.

Adding the wire to the "I" terminal worked like a charm.
Thank you |
