Jetaway to a th350 or 200r4?

Hey I've got a '66 oldsmobile with a stock 330 making about 250 (according to the manual) horses at the crank, it's got a switch pitch jetaway in it (2 speed) and 2.78 rear end. I'm doing a lot of city driving and the 2 speed is killing me in gas and fun. Would a stock th350 last fine in my car? I know they bolt up easily and i could probably get a good one for $150. The only thing that has me leery is 2 of my buddys have th350's (One in a '77 400 trans am, and one in a '71 350 cutlass) and both of them have had troubles with them. So far my jetaway hasnt made a peep for 40 years, will I have trouble with it with my engine? The other option is a junkyard 200r4 and a lower rear end, but if a th350 wont hold up what are the odds a a 200r4 will?
Any opinions would be appreciated. It won't be raced or anything. It is my daily driver.

super turbine 300 , I think where some confusion comes from is the tranny was still called a Jetaway by Gm or literature by marketing people ..... not sure which it is.

Reason I bring this up is a fellow brought a "Jetaway" into the shop several weeks ago. I happened to be up front and the sales guys asked me about it. They thought it was a BOP case Powerglide. It was a ST300 tranny

It is for sure not a 4 speed. It is a 2 speed with switch pitch torque converter. In my car's original manual it calls it a jetaway.

200r4

I wouldl use one of those..I have one out here that went 150,000 with no issues what so ever in an 86 pariesienne (sp) Pontiac full size with a 307..about equivalent to what you have now..

Only reason it came out is the car had an underhood fire which totaly ruined all the wiring and some nudniks vandalized the car..

It worked fine and the mileage was ok tho the car was no ball of fire..I do not think that had anything to do with the tranny..

I am thinking of trading it to my buddy for his Chevelle project as his is a mild street rig with some nice paint which he likes..

I don't see how an 87 parisienne could be putting out as much power as my car... It's got me worried money is a huge issue here (i dont have a lot) and i want the transmission to be reliable.

Pontiac

That car made about 250 horse and the kids drove it hard with no mercy so given that sort of history I have no problem with a 200R4..

Just my 2 centavos..
