I just wanted to post this because this is one thing that has not been covered in this post. I emailed Shawn Mahady about the rattle can primer, and he emailed me back and said it should be fine to apply JDBB over the primer but spray a small area to test it out first! So if anyone else needed this information, there you go. Weather was rediculous all this weekend so Hopefully next weekend will be better.

There's something about using the JD buff primer somewhere in this huge thread, but I don't recall if it specifically addressed the rattlecan version. Regardless, I bought a can of the buff primer when I picked up my BB rattlecans and it worked fine. Overall my paint turned out mediocre but I didn't have any problems with the buff primer. Good Luck!

Thanks,
yea, the Buff primer is mentioned alot but I emailed Shawn asking because I used cheap Wally World rattle can primer, not the JD Buff in a rattle can. I have a compressor and gun now so I am not going to use rattle can BB. I was trying to make sure I didn't need to sand all the cheap rattle can stuff I put on off and then apply the JD Buff primer then the Blitz Black.

I want to paint my 66 Dart GT JDBB, but it is not available in CA. They do carry #TY25825. I guess it is the low VOC version, which is about $70 a gallon and the hardener is about $65. What is up with that? I think I might just drive to nevada to get some. Just a pain in the *** if you ask me. Any suggestions??

Okay I finally got my paint after having to go through two dealers and waiting 3 weeks! I was reading the instructions on the back of the can and after reading everything in this thread that says 8:1 ratio the can has 10:1 on it!! What should I do follow the directions on the can or go with the 8:1?? I can't wait to have my truck all one color again. I hasn't been all one color in about 8 years! Thanks for the help!

I heard you cant paint automotive paint over rattle cans later if you want to change the color. I heard the type of paint in rattle cans makes regular automotive paint wrinkle. Is the paint in the rattle can the same as the paint they sell buy the gallon.

There is a post in this thread which states the Blitz Black in a can is the same as the real deal. If you think about it, the prep you would do for a real paint job will probably do away with your rattlecan paint - you'll sand right through it. Hopefully some experts will weigh in.

Depends on the paint in the rattle can.....and what your original paint is....If it's a cheap enamal, which many are, it will wrinkle. If it's a laquer based, or other strong solvent based, it will not. If you are spraying laquer over a cheap enamal, it may wrinkle that paint.

I don't know how it holds up, but from reading all of these posts it should do very well. I got my gallon in last Friday. I had to go through two different dealers though. The first one here in town said he could order it for me then almost 3 weeks later said he couldn't get it but he put me in touch with another dealer in a town 30 miles away. I called the other dealer and luckily he was coming right by where I work to deliver a tractor so he dropped the paint off at work for me.http://dealerlocator.deere.com/serv...te=&postalCode=
here is a link that is on page two in post #28 that will pull up all the dealers in your area. I hope this helps.

paint

I have already posted my car in this section. But here are a few shots again of my JD paint. I did not use any flatening agent. I mixed the JD 8:1 and this is what I came out with:

Paint

The paint is JD Blitz Black. No flatening agent. No wax.

I just took this pictures of the remaining pints in my garage....

I sprayed one tack coat and then one really wet coat within 10 minutes of each other. It took 2 hours in the oven and another 3 hours out side for the paint to dry to the touch....

Here is a very short video of the car at night.......

JD Paint

I am not a professional painter by any means but I am very happy with the results for my first paint job ever. My car still needs some body work and the trim holes welded up. So I will be painting the car a second time at the end of summer.... I painted this in the summer of 2003.

Dave
