did some home-work

so i searched the net for JD BB. nothing. so i fianly went to thier site and registered. i found every thing i needed. i tried to order the BB and they swaped part numbers on me. they have a CA approved blitz black under the part number ty25669. i guess we can order it then here in cali. will it be as good is the question?

what do you think? has any one else tried that version of BB? i dont want to be the first user of it

also how much do you think i need for a VW bug (its a 63 rat bug)? 1 gallon of primer and paint should cover it with no problems?

ty25669 BB paint (CA) = 24.01
ty6457 primer = 25.19

those are in gallons each.

damn cheep. well i guess i can always paint some scrap to find out if i like it. hope it will hold up.

unless some one wants to go in on some real BB. I will send you some money , if you order me a gallon of it (i will aslo cover shipping to me), out of CA of course.

i'd offer to, but as i'm in canada, i'm sure you can find someone closer to get some :o

If you cleared this paint would you end up with a real glossy finish? or would it be inbetween real glossy and the satin of the blitz black? and would the clear adhere to the jd paint, i can go buy a rattle can and test on a peice of metal, but wondering after a year or so would the clear start flaking off or something stupid (and yes motoedge i know you answered my question that it would be glossy, but i'm not sure how glossy since i'm new to the whole paint thing)

Just wondering if i could shoot the blitz black and then later on shoot a clear overtop, not at a single time, since i could paint the whole car blitz black, then work on individual panels to get them perfect, and respray blitz black easily blending into the next panel, then when the whole car is perfect, then spray a clear overtop to gloss that baby but still having a protective layer on the car in the meantime. (maybe this could be done with another paint as well, but this was my plan, work on the car some and drive it as well without being down for months at a time)

i dont think that the clear will actually attach to the BB properly. i think you will have a major compatability problem. if you want more of glossy-satin finish you might wana try wet sanding it with 1500 or somthing. maybe buffing it would help on the shine. good luck.

i am trying to aquire a moderate glossy satin/flat look. i am going to get some of that BB Send to a friend in AZ and have it shipped to me in Cali.

Where abouts are you in Calif, I am in Agua Dulce, near the santa claita valley 30 miles from Magic Mountain park and the nearest John Deere seems to be in Bakersfield. Ed ke6bnl

John Deere Blitz Black

Give this guy Shawn a call (below) for the Clear Coat chemical Q&A.
There should not be a problem with any clear and BB, but ya never know. All you really need is a super calm day and shoot it outside or a garage fully draped off in disposable fold out painters plastic sheeting. Go rent a gun on your weekend find a junker car hood to experiment on. And then shoot it over your weekend. Just follow the instructions on the cure times and take your time. The BB will air dry hard, and a little more time for the clear to cure up. Try to get a rattle can of BB and a rattle of clear and do some testing. The clear out of a can will be a standard formla so it will give you what your looking for. And I would bet money that CA has a different mix of BB due to stricter polution laws, but still call Shawn. And that you might have a problem shipping it as well. Try UPS or FedEx. Ill find out what JD has on hand here for BB and also check shipping restrictions to CA, if any.
But that is a good question if you want to shoot a clear over a satin/flat. And or BB. Will it go glossy? Ive never done it. It has been done Im sure. But hey, we all need input eh? Lemme know what you come up with. Im gonna shoot BB as soon as summer hits.

Late~

Got screwed!

just found out that i cant get any of the stuff here in califorina!

i thought since that they changed the part numbers that it would be ok to buy it here in califorina. sounds like plan B. order it to some friends place in AZ and get it shipped over here.

i went to john deeres website:

http://jdparts.deere.com/servlet/co....HomeUnsi gned

to order online. all they do is hook you up with the nearest dealer and then you can see order from thier. you dont pay anything to johne deere itself but to the distruibutor. you can also see what your local store has on hand through this website (need to register).

i also got this from shawn the other day:

Here are some answers to your questions:
Due to a new label project at John Deere, the new part number for Blitz Black is TY-25669 (this replaces TY-6416).
THE FORMULA HAS NOT CHANGED!!!!!! SAME DURABILITY, SAME COLOR, SAME GLOSS LEVEL, ETC...
I have a color card that includes some technical information that may be helpful to you. Let me know if you want me to send you a copy.
The REN3001 hardener will work very well with Blitz Black. Mix ratios are 8 parts paint to 1 part REN3001 hardener to 1 part thinner. This combination will make the paint film cure faster to a hard finish.
A gallon will cover a easily cover a small car.
My recommendation for thinning is to start with an 8 parts paint to 1 part thinner--some guys like to spray the product thin...some like to spray it thick. Spray one tack coat followed by one maybe two full wet coats for the best results.
Let me know if you need more info.

i ordered 1 qt of JD primer and 2qt of JD BB paint. should be plenty to do my whole front chassis and suspsension and firewall. gota pick it up tommarow

Up in canada here they dont sell JD BB in gallons...only in qaurts, that kinda sucks.

i see JD sells like

-SILVER PAINT, CASE SILVER
-RED PAINT, NEW HOLLAND RED
-PAINT,SOFT BLACK
-PAINT, SUPREME GRAY
-PAINT, ORANGE
-PAINT, HI GLOSS WHITE
-PAINT, INDUSTRIAL,LIGHT GRAY
-GREY PAINT, FORD GREY
-GREY PAINT, CONST. CHARCOAL
-GRAY PAINT, MF FLINT GRAY
-BLUE PAINT, FORD BLUE

WOW lots of differnt colors.... i wonder how any of them look... they are all the same price as JD BB i belive.

SO the Ford blue is Blitz Black only blue. Sounds like a good choice for a engine block and heads. Any reason it wouldn't work for that.

Has anyone compared Blitz Black to Zero Rust?

The JD paint may not stand the heat from the engine? i dunno other then that i would work i think.

when i was at JD i was looking at some of the spray paint caps and i seen a grey paint which looked like metallic. was like the dodge trucks graphite metallic but a bit lighter. i think i will use that on my car for the body.

i just painted my chassis with BB. been drying for about 12 hours, but not in a hot climate. i just used a paint brush on it since i dont have a spray gun or air compresser. looks pretty good, but i do need to touch up some places which i will probaly do up tommarow. i used 3/4 quart of primer, and 1 and 1/4 quart of paint.

lol notice all the paint on the floor im messy

BB on Engine Block

JD BB will not work on engine blocks or headers or pipes.
BB will not retard rust growth. Only a paint formulated like like Kilz will do that.

Cool....
