JON, Hey Jon, Woohoo, Over here!!!
You need to do something with LS1. This kind of talk should not be tolerated on here because of children, women, and because it is not appropriate. Period. Look at the second reply of his. 'nuff said!!!

Seconded. It's out of hand between the loser twins, and this new moron (who sure seems familiar) Just too much crap between the decent posts. I think it's keeping legitimate long time posters from posting here anymore. :(

So before everyone leaves here, I just wanna know:
Can I block out posts from specific posters?
The ammount of useless crap has grown here exponentially over the last few weeks.
Is it possible to block out posts/or ignore some posters as I can on other boards? Thanks.

This is what I was talking about before.
Posts that dont stay on track.
Maybe you should add sexualy harasment to the list as well.
If that was my daughter I would be out for blood!

Fourth, This is the first time I've added one to my ignore list but my patience is running out on hormone crazy boys that have no maturity or sense of respect for others of either gender. Some of these guys I don't even respond to anymore. I know some of the other guys don't either. I don't mind getting off the subject of cars cause I know I'm guilty of that but I at least try to keep a civil tongue most of the time. :(

I get tired of the language also. I know that there are filters but I get tired of seeing **** all the time in his postings. Like I stated before there needs to be a prerequisite to being allowed to post on here. Also this guy has been warned by the people of Hotrodders and he continues to believe that he can say or do anything he pleases. But when he talks about women like that on a family site, it goes way too far.

A most definate 5th 6th or 7th possibly even the 8th. First day slack given, rope lengthened, hanged himself the body's starting to stink.

Barz51 03-01-2003 01:00 PM

Add my name to that list. Steve and I tried to shut him up this morning to no avail. This guy has like 70 post in two days. Ban him now before this gets worse.

I'm new here, but I'm as offended as the folks that have been a member of this site for some time. I was reading postings on this site long before I joined just to make sure the content was what I was looking for. I know you can't control every post by everyone all of the time, but this guy has to go. His postings will drive away existing members as well as drive potential members away.

I appreciate you guys bringing this to my attention (although the exclamation points are only necessary when trying to get my attention in one of the other forums -- I watch HR Q&A carefully :) ). The board has grown to the point where it is no longer possible for me to police the entire community.

In the future, if someone could remind newer members to read the board guidelines, this would be an excellent first step. Also, when I intervene, it will give me more ammo, because I can say "you've already been warned". A first warning has been sufficient in the past for 90% of our problems.

The negative posts still comprise a small percentage of the posts on the board. Nevertheless, they attract the most attention. And drama. If anyone has a viable solution to deal with this, let's hear it. I'd be in your debt, along with nearly every other board admin on the net.

I will deal with LS1.

Kevin45 03-01-2003 02:55 PM

Hate to push you Jon but he needs to be dealt with promptly. Expecially with the language that is now showing up in the topic header. That and the language filter needs to add a couple of new words.

awsum34 03-01-2003 03:06 PM

Just do what i do. just don't answer or post anything. when he starts a post. After reading the frist few post of his. That did it for me. I don't even open his post anymore. If he wants to talk about building cars then lets talk. If he want to talk alot and say nothing. Then don't answer his post.

It dosn't matter how many post he has. But listening to you guys he just like to start things and keeps it going.

As long as you give him the attention he's looking for, he'll keep doing what he's doing.

enough said.

4 Jaw Chuck 03-01-2003 03:21 PM

Just ignore the fool, every post answering his ridiculous rants only serves to stimulate him.

53Z 03-01-2003 05:45 PM

Jon, I don't post much but i'm here 3 or 4 times a day reading, and this guy is getting pretty bad. I think there is a way to keep him from posting unless he is registered and once he is registered you can ban his isp.

38 special 03-01-2003 06:20 PM

Awesome34, 4jaw, that's good advice. I started that tactict after the commie loving thread. Warn them once then I shun them unless they show a little respect for everyone. I shudder every time I see a post saying a friend of mine turned me on to this site especially when this young pup that turned him on to this site was a problem too.

Jon 03-01-2003 06:54 PM

LS1Lover has been unregistered.

awsum34 and Chuck are correct, of course. The best thing to do is just ignore them, and they'll get dealt with eventually.

If everyone ignored them, they would go away. But in regards to the entire community, solutions that begin with "if everyone" will probably disappoint us.

We've had a surprisingly small amount of intruders up to this point. But we are growing at a phenomenal rate. That's why we've established the Knowledge Base, and that's why we put up the board guidelines. So that we can advance, not just increase in size. These two additions are textbook signs of the development of an established, growing community -- an education system and a legal system.

We've operated here a long time under great personal freedom. Much more so than the vast majority of other online communities. We've dealt with most of our problems on an individual, case-by-case basis. This solution worked for us, but it was never intended to be scalable. We've expanded beyond the boundaries of its usefulness.

We have been through a lot together, and we are faced with a problem. Congratulations -- we are now officially a community :) . Let's work to solve it.

Here's what you can do to help:

1. If you see someone violating board guidelines, or acting in a disrespectful manner outside of The Dump, please let them know to read the guidelines. Post a link -- the url is: . Say it in as nice a way as you possibly can. Don't antagonize.

2. If, after a courteous suggestion to consult the guidelines, you see a member still disrespecting the guidelines, please let me know by PM or email at .

3. Don't provoke intruders. They want you to play their game. Ignore them. Don't lose your cool. Be patient.

Here's what I can do to help:

1. Resolve issues with intruders as quickly and efficiently as possible. Nobody enjoys basking in the drama.

2. Make sure the link to the guidelines gets clicked on by most members. Either by strategic placement, or constant reminding, or whatever else works.
