07-28-2014 06:02 PM My night at the drags
2014 good Guys PNW Nationals
The good, the bad, the ugly.
Every year since 2002 I go to the good guys race and say
if i had an old car i'd race with them.
Last year I decided i'd give it a try, eventhough I don't have a garage to work in.
Put up a tent and work in the dirt. Thanks to the guys here for the help,
with out it it couldn't happen. I should have listened closer.
They put me in hot rod 2.
I won the first two rounds I ever raced in a car. Thats the good.
But I won them on the start line, not at the finish.
The third round i blew a seal on my garenteedfrolifeautozone water pump. The bad.
The ugly was the ride home on a roll back truck. Serves me right for being a cheap skate,
the cost of the tow would bought 1/2 dozen good water pumps.
The first round I cut a .004 light to his .559- he admitted he went to sleep.
He also told me he'd won hot rod 2 last year.
I was so far ahead I had to let off, I thought I was breaking out.
The second round the car acted like it didn't want to shift, so I bumped the shifter.
Right in to neutral, I knew the race was over. When I looked up I had the win light,
he had the red light.
Third round lined up with a beautiful 54-55 merc, blew the water pump seal about 1/2 track.
all in all it was worth it, and I'll be there next year. All this with a summer time head cold.
Next up for the 49 a new cam-3:55 gears and test n tune in three weeks.
Oh ya another water pump from a new source.
Thats the black merc

07-24-2014 10:04 PM water test
got a bunch of rain, found leaks on front windshield.
Got new shifter in the mail from Texas.
Tomorrow the good guys race- it better not rain
I've been on this all winter.
Put her on the scale yesterday 3180 lbs
thats hard to believe but they're certified scales.
I'm calling it 3350 with me in it.
Went to the wallace site for horse power estimates,
they're all over the place, not useful.

07-20-2014 10:43 PM Day 3 at the track
Friday night test n tune, what a blast.
First run quickest and fastest yet
14.602 @ 91mph.
Woof I'll take that, when I started this thing I figured
I'd be happy with mid 15's.
The last run was a blast. A young kid in an Acura in the right lane.
I loaded it up and finally cut a light. .008, ran a 15.2 to his 15.6.
His light was .433, he was so far back I couldn't find him my in my rear view
or even out the window. Had to lay on the brakes for him to catch up.
When he passed by he gave me the look of death.
I know what he was thinking- how did that old dinosaur beat me with the rusty bucket of bolts.
I got the photo guy to get a pic of one run. I loaded it up too much and blew the tire off all thru 1st gear. Hope he got that.
PS the trany shifted at 5000, just what I was looking for.

07-17-2014 10:20 PM the governor
got the goods
stock weight weighed 11G
put in 7G
called TCI, he was hesitant to give an answer
when i asked how much to get another 1000 rpm.
Sounds like construction engineers typical answer
"it's a field problem."
Tomorrow test n tune.
