Gene uses a new grinding wheel in a 4-1/2 grinder, touching only the weld. He levels off the high spots lightly to avoid heating the metal

05-05-2004 08:56 AM Drilling for gold, or lead
With all the hammerwelding compete (For the demonstration), Gene went about prepairing the fender for lead. Its is imparitive to get ALL the slag, trash, dirt, boogers, whatever, out of the metal. You need 100% clean metal to apply tin/lead to. The drillbit is ground flat, so that the cutting edge is 90 degrees to the bit. It digs out the slag and does an effective job.

A closeup of the completed hammerweld. Done the right way. It won't take much work from the vixen to get this ready for lead.

Here, Gene begins to hammerweld. A process of welding, then hammering the weld down flat. Sounds simple. Try it.
