09-18-2010 10:11 PM All Dressed Up With No Where To Go
Back from China and back to work.

I made an attempt to put the braided stainless steel wire looms on the door. I had to make a support to make it so the nut would tighten. After I got it all assembled, the door went back on the car. It was then I found out this wouldn't work. The door on the 41 closes in instead of around. Closing the door ended up crushing the hose. I would have had to push the hose every time I closed the door and even then it would not have lasted long.

I will have to figure a better way to pass the wires to the door. In the meantime, I have two new holes to fill.

Finished the grinding tonight. There are no visible holes. I may do a dye pen test to verify it is completely welded.

Used a license plate to mark the bottom two holes. Drilled them. Test fit the bolt/lights. No photo, but all the bullet connectors are on the bolt/lights. Still have to wire the trunk lid.

I was hoping to get it done tonight after work. Almost made it. I probably still have pin holes to fill. Welding and grinding.

I got a killer deal on an AutoLock frenching kit due to the fact it had surface rust. It was still sealed in the packaging, so they must have forgot to put the silica gel pack in before they sealed it. Anyway, a little elbow grease and a dip in phosphoric acid and it was good to go. I had to cut it down quite a bit. It was originally 2 inches deep all the way around.
There is nothing as exciting as cutting up a NOS Buick trunk lid! The opening was cut slightly smaller than the box. The bottom line was cut right on the desired line to act as a locater for the rest of the cuts once the box was in position. The inner bracing was cut out. The opening was then cut until it was almost big enough with final grinding to the inside surface of the box.
When I took the last photo I was wishing this was the end. Unfortunately, it has to be welded. I was going to show some in-process welds. After putting them in I decided it would be best to just show the finished product!

08-27-2010 09:22 PM Trunk Lid
One small filler piece was cut for the hole. The bracket was welded to the trunk lid.

The opening for the frenched plate box was marked out.

At this point, I am sleeping on it. I am not sure if the box is the one I want. Based on time and money, I will probably use it. I just need to let it mellow over night.
