08-27-2010 09:22 PM Trunk Lid
One small filler piece was cut for the hole. The bracket was welded to the trunk lid.

The opening for the frenched plate box was marked out.

At this point, I am sleeping on it. I am not sure if the box is the one I want. Based on time and money, I will probably use it. I just need to let it mellow over night.

08-23-2010 09:08 PM Trunk Lid Latch
After measuring the opening and the striker bolt to latch distances, I built a mounting piece for the latch striker. After tacking it in place I checked to see if it fit. After I was sure, I did some welding. I will have to cut and fit filler pieces on another night. Started working at 6 when it was 100 degrees. Ended at 9 when it was 94 degrees.

08-22-2010 06:45 AM Wiring and Belts
The fuel pump impact cut-off switch, the 100 amp fuse box, the fuel pump relay, the fuel pump circuit breaker, and the solenoid were installed. The wires were sorted and the ends for the hardware installed were finished off. The red and the brown wire hanging loose are for the fuel pump and fuel sending unit respectively. The teal wire is for the back up lights. Still not sure what I am going to do about that.

The floor flap was welded down. The holes were drilled. The four reinforcing plates were located and rosette welded to the sheet metal. Yet to finish- The channel needs to be boxed and reinforced. I am waiting to see if the riv-nuts for the seat back need to be replaced. The retractors need to be mounted to the package shelf - easy.

With the inner belt location and mounting sorted out, I turned my attention to the outer mount. This is tougher. The frame runs under the floor with only about 3/16 clearance. The body mounting bolt reinforcement is directly behind the channel created by the floor.

I called Juliano's and talked to Joe. Great guy. Very helpful.

First, he said they could make a set of custom belts. Shorter and with the short triangle sized mounts. Then he said the belt mount could be mounted vertical instead of horizontal. If I could get the reinforcing plate back in the box created by the floors overlapping, I would be able to pick up a little over an inch on the belt to belt mounting distance.

Long story short, all I have left to do is weld.

The seat base isn't complete but it has been cut down enough to fit in the car.

The rear seat floor pan starts approximately at the B pillar and goes back and fits under the trunk floor. The trunk floor bends up, forward, down, and forward after it overlaps the rear seat floor, forming a crossmember. A three inch wide section was cut, the channel straightened and flattened, and cut to length. It was then welded in place making the floor double thickness.

For now, the reinforcing plate is held in place with the bolt. Once the underneath side of the floor is cleaned, the reinforcing plate will be welded in place.

After looking at what will be required to install the shoulder harness system, I will probably run lap belts only in the back seat.
