09-10-2006 10:02 AM Droppin' the box on the Studebaker!
Well Friday I was home sick from work, got the stupid flu. Saturday had little or no ambition. Today started bright and early, felt a little better but dead ***** tired now. Worked on the Studebaker. Got a lot accomplished. Starting to look good now! Everything is starting to line up. Had to cut the floor out of the box of the truck and drop it down about 4.5 inches. Also had to cut a bunch of metal out of the front to get it to sit right on the frame, and had to push the body about 1inch closer to the front to get the front fenders to line up where I want them. I have shot some photos of the progress. Let me know what you think!

09-05-2006 09:13 PM Studebaker body mounting thoughts
While talking to a couple of my neighbors who build rods all the time, I was talking about doing the body mounts, and one of the guys said "I usually just use some angle iron and get a some hockey pucks and use those for mounts". I was like hockey pucks? He said yep, hockey pucks. Stop in at one of the sports stores, buy some decent hockey pucks or used ones from the play it again sports places and said drill a 1/2 inch hole through the center and that's it! I could not believe that it was that simple. He said that the ride is a little stiffer, but work just fine. Said to use a decent quality one, because the cheap ones crack in half. Also said that some of the 4x4 guys use those as body lifts. Guess you learn something new every day! I would not have even thought of that.

Well I was racking my brain trying to figure out how I was going to solve my banjo bolt problem. Well when I was talking to Bob at the Jim Weimer Rod Garage (www.jwrodgarage.com) we were talking about the braided hose kit's that I got from them. Well he mentioned that the banjo fittings that they are using are 10mm. I was like wait a minute. And I remembered that they did seem a little large for the GM metric calipers that were installed in the front. So when I got back home I went to the garage, found the fitting and found the bolt that came out of the original rear caliper. BINGO! the banjo bolt fit right in! So, I will be heading off to NAPA to get new banjo bolts and washers for the rear calipers and install those sometime this week.
