02-27-2006 10:36 AM DS front fender patch panel
I had some time this weekend so I worked on the patch panel for the front drivers side fender. The patch panel looked really good and seemed to fit well but one thing that was not none is the area at the wheel well. The patch panel has most of the curve in it except at the most inner side. If you look at pic one you can see the patch panel on the left has a straight flange on it. But the original panel has one more bend on it. I measured the bend width and scribed a line on the panel in order to have a guide to go by. I then started bending it over with a pair of hand seamers. I then clamped the original panel to the inside of the patch panel and hammered over the flange to match the original. It came ot looking really close to the original. I did have to use the hammer and dolly to take a couple of "waves" out. All in all I am pleased the way it turned out. I now just have to mount the fender brace bracket I removed from the fender. This should be no problem to just spot weld on in the same location on the patch panel.

02-27-2006 10:06 AM car dollies in use
I finally was able to move my truck back in its "bay" this weekend. I put it up on the dollies as you can see in the pics. I now can move my truck side to side to be able to work on the passenger side without having to move it from the side of the house. The expansion joints in the concrete don't even bother the wheels. It was really a pain to do before due to the fact I only have ten feet of width there. Then if I pulled it out of the bay my driveway is very steep so I had to be careful.

Pic 1 is the dent in the grille surround area that was removed. All it will take now is a thin layer of filler compared to the 1/2" that was in there! If you look at the bottom of the headlight bucket you can see where the hole that was there is now gone.

Pic 2 was the dent before

Pic 1 is the panel as I started to cut it. You can see the layout lines. Cut the lower one not the upper one!

Pic 2 you can see the holes for the emblem are welded shut.

Pic 3 the rusty panel is gone.
