With the body supported at the correct ride hight the wheels are put in place to work out the rear axle hub to hub dimensions and a similar dimension for the front track.
Here you can see the the boot door was changed from opening down to lifting up , some small gas struts will replace the two steel bars holding the door up in the pic. also you can see the roof chop line on the rear quarter, the 2" band on the rear wing and new steel on the bottom edge of the boot .
The first thing i did was to chop the roof by 3", i"am afraid i do not have any pics of this process .Then the car was transported still on the original chassi to my place of work(a steel fabrication workshop)where the body was removed from the old chassi. these pics show the body supported on some tressels making it easy to work on. The rear arches are widened by 2", and welded straight to the body while the front wings are kept as standard but all the front panels are welded together to make a one piece flip front.
On the tenth of january 1996 this Ford Popular was bought and transported to my home in Lincoln, England. It is a 1959 model, one of the last to be made of this shape. it was last used on the roads in 1993 when it ran with the original engine of 1172cc
