Man, i hate this. Too old and fat to get much done under the dash. And what little i did was in vain.

Got the clutch cylinder and pedal mounted, and the line i got was too short. Then the master cylinder seems to be dried out and not pumping. No joy. I'll try one more time before i buy another one. I just occurs to me that i am not totally sure the line is not blocked.

Then i tried to make a brace for the steering wheel and clutch pedal mount, but made it wrong. First try, no real harm done.

And found that the throttle cable i got was too too long, but that looks like it might work.

On the Ratster decided to go with an electric fan, they are cheap enough, and will make another grill shell. The other one is just too ugly.

And i ordered new black steel wheels, 10 x15 in back 6 x15 in front.

I wonder what it feels like to know what you are doing, and to make something right the first time.

I suspect i will never know.

06-18-2008 03:29 PM Around the block
Got a tag yesterday, and fired it up today.. First time in third gear. Went around the block and down to Darrell's tire store.. Some good, some bad.

The rear wheels are not centered, Darrel is getting a quote on four new wheels. 6's in front, 10's in back

I couldn't get gas into the tank, small miscalculation. The little flapper will have to be defeated.

It overheated while sitting still. I will have to move the radiator back or get an electric fan.

Later. I think my grill shell is limiting the airflow. I needed to modify it to mount the headlights, so i will probably just go naked. Perhaps some expanded metal on the front.

Pix. I got the seats and seat belts in, found some sun visors and an ammeter at the junk yard when i went to get a replacement for the seatbelt anchor.

Got the battery anchored down, bought a 9 foot cable at the welding shop, and hooked that up. Couldn't get a good picture.

The plate.

Drove poor Paul at the parts store nuts, i think i was there five or six times

Oh, the good part? Goes like hell. Sounds tough, looks really silly. All good

And after that messed with the Clutch pedal and hydraulics on the 47. That should work, still undecided if i will put a brake pedal in there before i put it on eBay. I got the emergency brake linkage working from the transmission cross member back, and have a handle and cable from the Nissan frame.

All i want to do is get it so it can be loaded on a trailer. But i might spend the 175 for the under the floor pedal and master cylinder. Depends oh how many guitars i sell.

I want to build an electric car, or more likely a trike next. Wave of the future and all.

Would have got a bracket welded in, but i got stupid and cut out what i had done.. Bright boy forgot there was a steering wheel lock, and thought he had welded the shaft to the housing. Duh...

At least i had the key.

And cut down the shift lever in the 47, and lengthened the one in the Ratster. Screwed in a cup holder, and tried to get the seat belts in.

In the picture of the 47 you can see the new seat and the short shifter.

Next trick; the wiring.

06-15-2008 02:08 PM Steering Trial Fit
My wife's brother came over and we got the hole cut in the firewall and the steering column roughed in. Bad news,, no dashboard. Good news, won't have to put any bogus extensions in the steering shaft.

I'll try and weld some brackets in later.

Bed liner on the cockpit. That is some nasty stuff.. Ketones and toluene. But i think it worked. Cheaper than floor mats
