04-18-2008 01:36 PM A Clue
Well the guy said this engine had a "head problem" but i think he was stretching it. A valve stem broke and smashed a piston.. I know he knew because he had the heads off, no head gaskets, no valve head..

Snookered again..The evidence is plain

Later; got the busted piston out, still wont turn. Also Tony went through the brakes, and we bled them, everything is fine, but they don't work well. Won't hold pressure. Looked at rear cylinders, no leaks. Ordered new master cylinders, pressing on.

04-17-2008 04:37 PM Mock Up
Got the neighbors to lift the '37 body on the frame, more to clean up the yard and make it mobile than anything. Looks like it will work, even as a highboy. Dunno.

And mocked up the radiator of the 47, and it looks like the grill will fit here. Tomorrow to order the drive shaft, and maybe work on the Ratster's brakes. Tony is here, i have to put him to work.

04-15-2008 02:54 PM Another Struggle
Took a solid hour to get the 302 block up on the engine stand working by myself. Whew. Got the book, found a guy to loan me the tools i need, so here we go.

Nothing beats a try but a failure.

I had to move the Frankenwagen and the Roadster to get the lawn mowed, and found i could get all my rust in one picture.

L-R 47 Rat rod, Purple Toyota, Frankenwagen, Roadster(Ratster), and the 37 cab

This is the remnants of eleven or twelve dead vehicles and as of now three of them actually move under their own power.

This is about $9,000.00 worth of junk and tools

Progress, i think. I really want to keep the Ratster if i can get it registered and inspected. It is fun as heck just driving around the yard. Lots of power.

Third picture is a close up of running ones. Ever see so much ugly in one place?

04-10-2008 05:28 PM Chassis Work Done
Built higher motor mounts, so the oil pan will clear the steering links and sway bar, put a half loop in the rear cross member so the drive shaft will clear, and bolted the transmission mount in.

That was the big hassle, it took all afternoon to drill two holes, i finally got bored with losing, and burned two holes with the torch, then ground them out with one of my sculpture stones. Then had a struggle with the bolts, got the wrong ones, so three trips to the parts store and spent about five dollars. Bought a new ratchet and set of 1/2 drive sockets just to spend some money.

I might put some gussets on the drive shaft half loop. but all that does is hold the parking brake linkage.

So next, rebuild the parking brake, hook up the shifter, have a drive shaft made and figure out the radiator and clutch linkage.

But not for a few days.. I'm tired. or tared...
