05-30-2010 05:54 PM Control Arms Con't

I tacked in some crossbracing and set it up on the frame.

I then mocked up some cardboard for a coilover mount template.

I used the carboard patterns to make up a sheet metal mock up mount. Seemed to work OK except that the coilover was too close to the upper control arm.

I made up a jig from one of the original control arms and started assembly.

The tubing is 1-1/2" diamter 1/8" wall type 304 stainless.

05-24-2010 06:48 PM WHAT WAS FORD THINKING???

I went to test fit the bushings and found that all four have different sizes.

You can see the gaps in the sleeves on the right side of the pic.

I contacted Bruce at Full Tilt and he offered to exchange the two sets of smaller sized bushings for two sets of the larger sized ones.

Great service on their part.

05-24-2010 06:41 PM Rear Lower Control Arms
I got started on the IRS lower control arms.

The two bushing sleeves are schedule 80 s/s pipe.
The front one was sized good and needed a fine tune on the lathe to fit the bushings.

The rear however was undersized quite a bit , but I found some 14 ga s/s bent kinda like bearing caps to fit inside brought them to within a fine tune on the lathe.

The two halves were tacked together and pressed in.

I then fusion welded them all the way around.

05-24-2010 06:34 PM Holes Filled
I got two of the holes filled for the bushing clearance and new brackets tacked in place for the lower control arm.
