12-13-2009 05:55 PM Just Checkin It Out

I welded in some bracing between the fenders so I could check everything out.
I think I will have to do a bit of hood mockup before I go too much further with the front piece.
I added a before picture to see the difference.

10-21-2009 09:08 PM Panels Done at MetalMeet
I went down to MetalMeet 2009 held in Oblong, Illinois last week and knocked out the two center panels and got them welded to the left and right side panels that I had finished earlier.

Still needs a bunch of shrinking and finishing but I'm pleased with the overall shape.

08-17-2009 06:52 PM Metal Finished
Got the welds pretty much metal finished.
Still needs some slapping and sanding but I'll do it later after I get more experience on some of the other panels.

First pic you can see the line of the filler rod.
Pics 2 and 3 show some waves but not too bad.

08-17-2009 06:41 PM Welds Completed
Pic 1 and 2 show the final welds.
You can see the metal finishing of the first welds.

The last pic is a back shot of the penetration from the welding.
The rod went right thru the material leaving walnuts on the back side.
If you look closely, the peening marks are visible where the material was stretched from the first welds.

08-13-2009 07:07 PM Fender Top Panel
I started the welding of the two panels.
I must do 1" at a time and then grind and stretch the weld so that I can keep it shaped properly.
If I weld the whole thing in one shot, it will be impossible to tell where the distortion occurred.
