09-26-2008 04:24 PM Patch Practice
A little practice with metal forming using a tape pattern as a guide.

I got a small piece pretty close to the shape of the fender. Of course I will try to do the patch in 1 piece. This was done using only a stump and wooden hammer.

I'll get some pointers from experienced metal shapers tomorrow hopefully.

09-25-2008 06:28 PM Bondo
Added bondo to the fender to get the required shape to make a flexible pattern.
I'm going out of town this weekend to meet up with some guys from metalmeet.com, so hopefully I can learn a thing or two.

You can see the big mess from the rear pic.

Sanded it down, smoothed it out and hit it with some black paint.

09-06-2008 06:59 PM Headlight Buckets

I scored a pair of 37-39 Ford headlight buckets from ebay.

I will have to polish the reflectors and get them rechromed.

All in all not bad. No rust thru holes although one has different mounting tabs and I'll have to make up some new ones.

I finished cutting a bunch of slices and tacking them together to roll in to the headlight.

I had to remove the first template I made as it was 20 ga and stared warping as I added tacks. I made new templates from 1/8" thick galv sheet with angles spot welded to the back to keep them really stiff.

I will eventually cut all this mess off after I learn how to shape a pce of 20 ga metal to fit into the fender.
