Bought the car from a guy in 2005 who bought it from a GI who was on service in Germany in the 90s.
The T/A looked not too bad but after we inspected it we knew that this was going to be an expensive project.

To be honest I probably would have abandoned it but for some reason I thought this car might be something special. It's a 4-speed and so it was obvious that it wasn't a 'high volume' model. Besides it is almost 100% numbers matching. So I sent the VIN to PHS and they confirmed that the car is a genuine 'Special Edition'.
It's a pretty rare car and IMHO deserves to be preserved.
Bought the car in California in 2004. When it arrived here I had to realize that the condition wasn't what I had expected.
After a couple of half-hearted upgrades, tuning, etc. I decided to do a full resto.

IMHO it has become a nice car again.
Interesting background-story - the Bird once belonged to the father of Steve Lukather, guitarist of the Band TOTO (the older ones among us will remember...).
