Well today between relatives and friends stopping by I managed to set the body on in order to finish making the headers. I'm trying to keep things as clean as I can and not chip everything up. I figure the body will be on and off at least 3-4 more time before I'm ready to paint. Necessary evil I guess.

I spent a little more time on the headers today. At this point its does look like the Big Block headers are going to work out fine but Iím still waiting on four 2-1/4Ē 180 degree SS mandrel bends. For now I am using mild steel to mock up my transition pieces and will copy them over in stainless when the pieces arrive.

Iím still in the planning mode and most of this is learn as I go along. Before I do anything else Iím going to set the body back on to make sure all looks good. I donít want the side pipes to far out from the frame and body. I will also have to decide if I want the side pipes level with the ground or if I want to stay parallel to the rake of the body and frame. I also have to make sure the front header tubes do not interfere with front wheels.

Here's a shot of the big block Chevy headers that I'm trying to use on the Hemi. I think it's going to work out fine but I'm held up now waiting on some pre-polished stainless mandrel bends.

There are few manufacturers for early Hemi headers. Hot Heads and Sanderson make them for hot rods but no longer make them in stainless. Theyíre also very symmetrical which is definitely not where I come from. Otherwise you can find all sorts of block huggers from over seas. Iíve also mocked up a set from old junk mild steel headers I had laying around and kind of liked them but I donít want coated or chrome headers. After already making the stainless flanges and thinking on this for months I decided to buy a set of stainless big block chevy dragster headers.

Hereís a couple pictures of them. Basically Iím going to cut them up and hope I can make them work out. I guess time will tell.

11-27-2011 01:22 PM 1930u Brake Proportioning Valve
I've been on a Hot Rod sabbatical due to many home projects, summer heat and extended vacations. Not to mention my regular job duties but now that winter is coming on I plan to spend many weekends in the shop. I actually went out there today uncovered the chassis and worked on the brake lines a bit. I really just have a few things to do before I put the body back on for the final body work. Today I installed a adjustable proportioning valve for the rear brakes. Only worked a couple hours but got a lot done. The AN fittings and 37 degree flaring tool worked out great.
