09-17-2013 08:01 PM 1930u set back bad throwout bearing and missing oil plug
A little over a week and a half ago I was preparing to start the Hemi. When I crawled under the car to hook up my remote start button I saw a drop of fluid under the bell housing. Upon inspection I found the new $100 never been used Speedway Motors hydraulic throwout bearing was leaking. Why me I asked?

Not a pretty picture and to make matters worse when I tried to prime the oil system I had only 20 PSI on the gauge...only to discover the engine builder (me) forgot to install the left internal oil gallery plug. The machine shop had removed it to clean the block and me not being familiar with the old Hemi just missed it. The only way to install it is to remove the left rear external oil plug. Since the throwout bearing was leaking I had to remove the trans any way so it wasn't a big deal. Live and learn but I was really bummed out so I left it sit for a week.

08-31-2013 07:14 PM 1930u- Carburetor day
I continue to work towards starting this thing, Right now it's been check, check and recheck everything. Today I pulled the 750 Edelbrock's and stuck them on the 409 to make sure there were no issues with the carbs. I bought them on the cheap and just did a rebuild on them. I'm going to try them as is with stock Edelbrock specs. They were way to fat for the 409 but sure did make the old 409 go sideways.

I also filled the blower with oil and spun it by hand to get some lube on the gears before I break the engine in. The one thing I really don't like with the Weiand Blower Kit is the T-stat housing. Just looks awkward and the top rad hose just doesn't do it for me. It will work to get it up and running but you can bet I will change to something else later on.

08-26-2013 06:41 PM 1930u- Gas Tank Sending Unit
I tend to be a bit anal about getting things done right the first time. Here's how I calibrated the fuel gauge. Of course I forgot about the baffle in the tank so I had to do it twice to make sure the float was free when I installed the sender unit. I also had a problem with the bolt flange. The tank bolt pattern did not match the sending unit. I opened up a couple of the bolt holes and all is fine now. The last thing I did before re-installing the tank was wire it up and turn the tank upside to make sure the float moved freely without obstruction. I also set it to make sure I had a little gas left when empty and set the full point to make sure I had some free board in the tank for expansion.

08-26-2013 06:08 PM 1930u the last week or so
Lots of progress over the last week or so but its all been tedious neat nick kind of stuff and hard to photograph. One item I will mention is the clutch safety switch. I made a bracket and installed it with the brake light switch. Also did the rest of the wiring. Spent a lot of time trying to organize and route wires. Here's a few shots. I will have to say its really getting tight under and behind the dash.
