06-29-2011 08:13 PM Steering column mounting
Since the body is still off the frame I made a card board template to layout the mounting location of the steering column. I'm using a plain Jane 1-3/4" stainless column. Before drilling the hole in the firewall I checked the steering wheel rim angle on a 66 Corvette, 2005 Dodge Ram, 97 Ford Ranger and a BMW. Much to my surprise they all had a steering wheel rim angle of 65-70 degrees. This felt comfortable to me.

From there I adjusted the hot rods seat height to a comfortable position and set the dry stroke and height for the clutch and brake pedals. The big hemi heads and width of the engine and #7 header tube caused some problems. After some head scratching I ended up with a steering shaft angle between the column and Vega box of 35 degrees. I was shooting for 25-30 degrees but I think this angle will still work out with one 5/8" spline to ¾ double D U-joint.

06-27-2011 07:42 PM Firewall work
Been away for awhile but I'm back at again. I'm currently in need of a few specialty parts that I plan to pick up at the Good Guys meet in Ohio. For now I'm working on getting the master cylinders plumbed through the firewall. I'm using all AN fittings for brakes and hydraulic throw out bearing. Here's a shot of the pass through fittings. The front and rear brakes are AN3 and the clutch fitting is AN4.

Here's the tank. I have to close off fuel fill and relocate it to middle top.

It would have been so easy to just use a fuel cell like 100% of people who build hot rods, but no I had to go old school. I bought this tank spur of the moment. I loved the shape, it stands up right on its own and it looked like it would fit in the rumble trunk. Its a 48-52 Ford pickup tank and holds 20 gallons.
