I took the Olds/Pontiac wheel cylinders apart and they were in great shape. I was surprised that Raybestos still makes a rebuild kit. They were only $5.00 each. Starting to put it all back together.

10-11-2010 06:10 PM Rear axle coming along
Good progress on the rear end over the weekend. The 4.56 is out and the 3.33 is in. Cleaning and detailing takes a lot of time and I couldn't finish assembly because of wet paint.

10-10-2010 06:13 PM After months I'm back at it
For the first time in months, I went out to the shop to visit the Hot Rod this weekend. Unexpected home repairs in the spring, extended vacation, business travel and the extreme heat over the summer kept me away from the project. I also wanted to get out a bit and drive some of my other cars.

Back in the spring I was working on the chassis, so that's where I decided to start back to work. Back in the day the chassis was set up for drag racing. It has a 57-64 Olds/Pontiac rear end with a 4.56 gear. It was a great setup for a 13.5.1, 327 and 4-speed but I've decided to change out the gear and install a 3.33. The car is light so this gear should work well behind the Blown Hemi. With the 3.33 gear and 31" tire the engine RPM will be about 2,500 RPM in 4th gear at 70 MPG.

These rear ends are massive and it's not easy finding parts. I attached a few pics.

04-23-2010 08:34 PM Frame is coming together
I finally got to hang the front suspension. It's really difficult trying to keep from damaging all the fresh paint and chrome but if you take your time you can minimize the chips and dings that show up here and there. I will have to do some touch up when it's done.

I'm trying to use grade 8 bolts for all the mounting but I really don't like the gold finish. For the sake of putting it all together I will use them for now and will see what else I can find later on.

The stainless plate is a shim I made to go between the Vega steering box and the frame. I've used a machine turned finish on many of the parts. My rear shocks are on back order, so I can't assemble the rear suspension yet.

04-20-2010 06:44 PM Frame in Chassis Black
Had time to hang it and spray it today. Looks really good. I'll let it dry over night and inspect tomorrow for bare or thin spots.

I'm waiting on a few parts. If they arrive this week I will begin assembly.
