07-13-2013 09:20 PM 1930u dash work
Iím not feeling the best and my work today was a little half hearted but I did get a few things done. Today I drilled bolted the dash insert and gauges. This was something I had been putting off but its done now. The acorn nuts are stainless. The final work will include a chrome bead around the insert. Tomorrow I will drill the ignition switch mounting hole. Rolled it outside today too.

07-12-2013 07:39 PM 1930u wiring
Today I started some of the wiringÖbasically I read the directions and placed a few wires. The one thing I will note is two extra wires off the fuse block. The pink is keyed and the red one is a hot battery feed. My thoughts are to add terminal strips for each wire so power can be accessed easily. Anything pulled from these wires will have to be fused individually. There is also a light blue wire fuseble link that gets crimped to the main power feed and then attaches to the starter battery terminal. So far so good.

07-09-2013 06:15 PM 1930u Planning the wiring
Well I have everything I need to finish the wiring...but over the weekend I just messed around hanging parts. I want to have all the hardware in place before I do the final wiring. Just want to make sure there is no interference/clearance issues with wiring and termination points. I want the wiring to look very simple and clean and I have to be careful to only use wiring and hardware that was available in the late 60' and 70's.

The headers are now in place with the gaskets and will not come off again for more polishing until I start and break in the engine. I'm also working on the plug wires now. I'm using a custom set of black Taylor 8mm wires. I'm also using a cheesy looking set of the old Mr. Gasket chrome wire looms which I will hack up to use.

07-09-2013 05:57 PM 1930u Crankcase ventilation
I took some shots of the Garlits valve covers and breathers while I was visiting the museum. Notice in my previous journal entry I leveled mine up and will use them as oil fillers. After driving past the place for almost 30 years I am so glad I stopped in there this past January. A really cool place.

Tonight I worked on my crankcase breathers. If you want to get sick to your stomach drill and saw holes in a set of chromed out 392 valve covers. OMG whatís wrong with me. Lol my intentions were to use finned aluminum covers but I have always loved the originals. I decided to use only two Moon Eyes breathers and stuck them on the end of the valve cover. For a street engine they should do just fine. I installed them upright so I can also use them as oil fillers. This will work much better than the oil inlet on the valley cover under the blower.

Sticking the breathers out on the end of the cover is something I picked up at the Don Garlits museum. Over the years he had set up a few like this and I loved the way they looked on the engines. If itís good enough for Don itís good enough for me.
