04-08-2011 06:13 PM How about a pair of these for tailights?
At Crafty-B's for coffee this morning and these little E & J style lights caught my eye. Perhaps a pair as tailights? They make the '40 Ford ones I bought look rather pedestrian.

04-04-2011 12:15 PM IT'S ALIVE!!!!
It's official. The Diamond T runs. Perfectly too, I might add. Oh yeah, there's no exhaust yet, it's still lacking the driveshaft and brake lines run, and obviously hasn't been painted yet, but it's now a truck, not just mis-matched parts piled together. LInk to the YouTube vid here:

04-03-2011 02:39 PM Working on the Diamond T...NOT!
I spent the last three days under my surprisingly rusty '00 Silverado replacing all the brake lines. This is a job about as much fun as having sharp things poked slowly under your fingernails, so I'm glad it's done. I've got three days off later this week, the weather is supposed to be warming up, so maybe I can FINALLY get some primer on the sheet metal of the Diamond T. In the meantime, we now have a driveable pickup to haul crap around in.

03-31-2011 06:43 PM Cool McCool's Garage update...
Got the running boards (almost) done. Whew, I find long-boarding more and more tedious. The results look good though, almost make me glad I decided to save the original shorty running boards and lengthen them. OK, not really, but they do look OK, and there's not as much filler on them as the photos make it look like. Mostly filling hammer marks, a very thin coat. There's more at my blog:

03-11-2011 08:24 PM More progress!
Today, I went to my buddy Brad's salvage yard (Morris Rose Auto Parts in Kalamazoo) and picked a surge tank for the radiator, and a pair of plastic inner fender liners from some kind up of pickup. I got the surge tank mounted, and although it's kinda ugly, it'll work just fine. A coat of black plastic paint will make it look more appropriate under the hood of the '48 Diamond T.

I also got the head pipes done and installed. These are made from chunks of the stainless "Y" pipe I save from the 350 TBI motor I didn't use, and sections of the 6.0's headpipes with the 02 sensors. It'll be enough to enable the truck to start and get off the trailer at the muffler shop to have the rest of the system made up.

The fender liners I'll mount behind the Auburn Speedster rear fenders, to protect the open tubing of the box frame from getting packed full of road debris and rusting out.

Feels REALLY good to get this stuff behind me. Now, the next step will be to fill it with fluids and see if it'll start!
