09-18-2012 08:39 AM #26-97 Mega Show
An eighty mile trip to a first time show proved to be a good choice. This show was put on by a local car club raising money for a breast cancer research center. The club has organized shows before and the experience showed, things went well and in a timely manner. Located on a county fairgrounds and held on an absolutely perfect day, the show had a hundred plus total entrees. Several friends trophied, lots of door prizes were given away and one of our favorite ice cream vendors was on hand for multiple visits. The trip there and back was uneventful, I got a kick out of tooling down the road with Fuzzy's T-bucket. Put the hot rod in the garage and now to repack my box of many wonders with fresh bottles of water for tomorrow's show.

09-12-2012 12:48 PM Optical Illusion???
A friend pointed this out at one time and I said and thought it was just an optical illusion-from the way I was parked. However when friend Ray Ballard sent pictures of our drive to the Frog Follies I could see pretty well that the rear axle was way off line. I think that when replacing the broken bracket from the drive shaft u-joint failure, I must not have adjusted the panhard bar very well. I moved the axle with the panhard bar over, drove about 40 miles with no steering/tracking problems and then moved it yet again. The picture shows a clear improvement.

09-10-2012 09:57 AM #25-96 almost fall like...
A cool, windy, almost fall like day for a small local show held about 20 miles away at an American Legion. There were only about 30 entrees but some really nice rides and lots of interested spectators. It was a fun day and a good drive and almost everyone left with an award or prize. My carb adjustment seemed to work out. Some weeks back I was getting a pretty rough idle at stops and after changing all the fuel filters and adding treatment, I went a turn and a little more on the idle screw. It was too much as the warm idle was pretty fast and there was some run on when shut off. It may have been loading up as after backing the idle off to about half what I had added resulted in no run on and a better feel at stops with the brake on.

09-04-2012 10:27 AM #24-95 Popcorn and Isaac
Thanks to hurricane Isaac one of the two shows I planned to attend this week on Saturday was canceled. The second show of the weekend was our home town Popcorn Festival on Sunday and even though misty drizzle was the weather I drove the few blocks over to the local park. Old Guy Fuzzy drove an hour down and joined me and we met with Bill and the others for a damp morning. Isaac finally finished passing through (leaving much needed rain) and the day cleared before noon. The show was less than half the entries of previous years due to the early rain and iffy chances of more. But, we brave souls had a great day and enjoyed the festival food (with peach cobbler and ice cream, and free popcorn) as well. The good news is that the problem with the brake lights is fixed-or at least they work and after a carburetor adjustment turned out to be too much I backed off and that problem may be solved, although a longer drive will tell.

08-27-2012 08:01 AM #23-94 The Follies!!
The Frog Follies are always a great show and once again it was much bigger and even better. However this one was also a disappointment. Fellow Old Guy Bill had been thrashing on his '46 Ford hot rod trying to get months of work done in just a few days. Too many untested systems came up to bite him, a serious alignment problem plus yet another engine issue. He couldn't get it done in spite of friends help and had to cancel out. We missed him.
The trip went well, for a two plus hour each way, on antique suspension. Some time in the last few days my brake lights have quit, didn't catch it until leaving town, but buddied up with Fuzzy following close in the '36 Chevy truck. Honorary Old Guy Ray Ballard rode along with us and will post some or all of the one thousand pictures he took on hotrodhotline. We walked for hours and saw hundreds of great pre-49 rides and totally enjoyed the excellent show. I bought a new brake light switch from one of the vendors but it didn't fix the problem so will need to dig deeper. Fortunately no misshaps or other problems there and back. Now to clean and fix for next weekend's two shows and check on Bill's hot rod progress.
