09-16-2010 01:02 PM Updates......
Been a while since the last post.Still working on the truck.Moved to the interior for now.Started making all the panels and such that I will need.I also got the steering wheel I wanted for the build also.I started by making simple door and kick panels. All the panels are thin panel board that will get final finished/shaped when I get to the actual upholstery part of the build. I glued up some boards to make my arm rests too.

08-08-2010 10:43 AM Shrinking the hood
I spent 4 evenings shrinking on the hood at this point.I had to fight with a few areas, but I finally got it to do what I wanted. The sheet metal has more smaller wrinkles in it,(nothing that cant be filled with a minimal amount of body filler),but the hood is solid, not stretched anymore, and the profile looks like it belongs.Still need to work on the rear edge to finish the metal working part .......for some reason I tried to figure out how much time I have in the hood, and it scared me,at this point,I have almost 30 hours in just the hood.........

08-08-2010 10:36 AM Shrinking the hood
I was told the hood was actually in a field and cows were walking on it when the original owner found it.He warped it up when he welded on it,and I did it no favors by cutting it into 6+ pieces. If you look close at the prior posts, you can see how warped up the hood had become by this point. I have only tried to heat shrink metal a couple of times, but have only had it work right once, that was on the tailgate of this truck. So,needless to say, shrinking the hood was going to be an adventure.........

The original owner peaked the hood using brake line. After all the grinding and and out side exposure, the brake line was very thin in alot of areas, and starting to rust from the inside.I had also removed part of it when I cut up the hood.I simply ground off the brake line and tack welds, and welded on a solid steel 3/16" rod to repeak the hood.
