I switched back to 1/2" wide stock for the rest oif the vertical bars. They give another step to the profile of the grill.I added bars until the openings were filled. You can also see how much the top of the insert is leaned back for clearance. I still need to add some horizontal supports and finish welding it up.

I started by adding 3 vetical bars lined up on the body lines and center of the opening. I continued adding bars until the center area was filled in.The profile follows the conture of the hood, meaning, even though its hard to see in the pictures, the grill is not flat across, its actually peaked like the hood. The outer ring of the insert is 1/2" wide stock, and the center vertical bars are 3/4" wide stock.

Since I started this build I have been struggling with the grill insert.I had tried a couple of different ideas,no of which I really liked.....so I decided to go back to the original idea and just make a simple vertical bar type grille.
I need to star from scratch...again.I made some simple mounts in the sides of the shell and started with the vertical side pieces. Then added the lower curves and bottom. At the top of the insert I needed it to be layed back slightly to clear the hood when it opens and closes.

Moved to the passenger side rail. Welded up extra holes, trimmed the lower part of the rail to match the upper. Also trimmed the lower for the contour up to the frame horn.Boxed and welded the inside......

Finished up the header modification.Im pretty happy with how it came out.
Should work pretty well, and the mod wont be noticable under the header wrap when its done.
