12-02-2012 08:58 PM Fixing the cowl
Now that the front sheet metal is off,I can finally finish the repairs to the lower cowl area where the fenders bolt up.Apparently, when I was younger,I must have been under the impression that the right way to fix a rust hole was to fill it full of duraglass.....
So this time around I cut the bad area out.Made a patch, used weld nuts on the back and welded the whole panel in solid. Also fixed a small area on the inner structure while I was at it.

12-02-2012 08:48 PM Headers
I built the headers out of a couple of used ones.So I sprayed a little hi-temp paint on them, then wrapped them with header wrap.

11-24-2012 09:44 PM Onto the firewall....
I built the fire wall with the engine and trans in the car. This limited my access to some of the areas,so now I can get at them I can clean them up.I trimmed the excess metal, welded some loose edges and stripped the rest of the paint, finished up by dressing the welds.

11-24-2012 09:38 PM Working on the cowl....
With the front sheet metal off,I can finally work on the cowl.Started by removing the strip that acted as a cushion for the hood and side panels. Then stripped the primer I put on years ago,and the factory paint. I cut the heads off the nails that held the cushion on,then welded up the spots. Then ground and dressed the welds.

11-23-2012 10:18 PM While we're at it......
With the front sheet metal out of the way, pulled the motor and trans too. Should not have to put them back in until final reassembly. Put the engine on a stand to work on it later, and put the trans on a car wheel dolly to make it easier to move around the shop when I need to.With these out,I can finish the firewall, tunnel and frame areas I could not reach with them in the car.
