Here's the latest on the flatbed and the trailer hitch. Cole's got them looking really nice. I ordered some diamond plate to do skirts on the sides with, but the steel company is now telling me I'm too remote for them to deliver it to me, so I'll have to go pick it up... Problem is... My truck isn't running yet... Anyway, The flatbed is almost done. It's off to the exhaust specialist tomorrow for new pipes and mufflers.
Cole is almost done fabricating the flatbed. Finding ready made stake pockets proved to be a minor hold up. Happily, the internet is at the tips of my fast typing fingers and no part is unobtainable! Amazing. He'll be able to finish it once those are here - In the meantime he's fabricating the trailer hitch. This guy is amazing, no kidding, I've been watching him fabricate stuff for the last two and half years and the beauty of his stuff is, you're never able to see where he did the work once the paint goes on. Here's a couple photos of Cole working on the trailer hitch.
Cole is just about done with the custom flatbed. Here's a couple of shots of the frame. I'll pick up the stake pockets today and Cole will weld them in place, then I'll start working on the stake sides. I picked up 2"x6" boards to build the side rails from. I intend on sanding/staining/and doing some lettering on the boards, but thats still a couple of days away. Today is Tuesday and the truck heads off to the exhaust guy on Friday. After that it's just a hop, skip, and jump to completion. Woohoo!
The seat went back in today, it'll have to come back out again, BUT! The important thing is that it is in. The engine was also started today. The motor runs a bit rough, but idles right along. No leaks, No Drips, No pulsing fluids pouring out onto the floor, nada. Just that 350 motor humming. I did catch Cole in the cab, I think he was pretending to be driving it. Ah, those kids.
Cole tried to start the motor today. No luck. 1st off, the battery was low, and that's never a good thing. BUT! It did turn over, and even acted like it might want to think about the possibility of a trace of an idea of maybe starting. So tomorrow morning, with a newly charged battery, we're going to try to make it run. One of the photos is the fuse box and wiring in the engine compartment, the other is of Cole next to his creation. More soon.
